Unique Astronomy Site Stub Stewart State Park

Stub Stewart State Park will be one location of the OMSI Perseid Meteor Showers

Used by those who live in Hillsboro, Beaverton, and the west side of Portland, Stub Stewart State Park is an amazing Oregon State Park that allows for astronomers to do astronomy!

Overview

  • Light Pollution: Green on Bortles Scale
  • Who Uses This Site–> Rose City Astronomers
  • Gear that one can bring–>Telescopes, computers, cameras, and anything else. Site is expansive and open. Therefore, enough room for everyone
  • Light dome caused by trees and lights from Portland and Hillsboro on the Eastern side, so it is recommended to look for targets overhead or to the west.
  • Oregon State Park
    • Activities include Horseback riding, mountain biking, disc golf, and hiking trails

  • Anything else to note: Members of the Rose City Astronomers have a form that they print out in front of their dash. Member only form, but not required to attend.

Full booking information and bookings can be made at Reserve America as L.L. Stub Stewart is an Oregon State Park. Accommodations must be made at least 1 day to 9 months in advance.

Dairy Creek Camp West (open year-round)

  • 43 full-hookup sites

Dairy Creek Camp East (open March 1 – Oct. 31)

  • 35 full-hookup sites
  • Flush toilets and hot showers
  • Playground

Hares Canyon Horse Camp (open March 1 – October 15)

  • 13 full-hookup sites with four-stall corrals
  • Two double-size full-hookup sites with six-stall corrals
  • Manure bins
  • Flush toilets and hot showers

      Note: All RV hookup sites are at least 50 feet long

Brooke Creek Hike-in Camp (open year round for sites 1-9)

  • 23 primitive campsites with water nearby
  • Picnic table at each site
  • Two common areas with fire rings
  • Two vault toilets (access to flush toilets and hot showers in West Dairy camp)
  • Sites 1-9 are available first come, first served
  • Sites 10-23 are reservable

Mountain Dale Cabin Village (year-round)

  • Three double-room cabins (cabin 6 pet friendly; see our Pets in Parks FAQ)
  • 12 single-room cabins (cabins 7 and 8 pet friendly)
  • Flush toilets and hot showers in cabin village restroom
  • Reservable meeting hall
